Meet Our Founder
Nekaya Carter is a visionary and community builder whose personal experiences have shaped her commitment to helping others navigate grief, embrace personal growth, and build meaningful connections through community.
Inspired by the legacy of her father and shaped by her own life experiences, Nekaya founded 2.18 Vision to create the kind of spaces she wished existed throughout her own journey. She believes healing happens through connection, education, mentorship, and shared experiences, and that no one should have to navigate life’s challenges alone.
A graduate of UC Berkeley, Nekaya has spent nearly two decades bringing people together through leadership, service, and community engagement. Her passion for creating meaningful opportunities led to the development of Women Elevating Women, a signature program designed to encourage, connect, and inspire women through authentic conversations and shared experiences. She also leads the organization’s Grief Gatherings, creating welcoming spaces where individuals, youth, and families can come together to navigate grief and strengthen community.
Today, Nekaya continues to lead 2.18 Vision by developing impactful programs, cultivating community partnerships, and creating experiences that help individuals, youth, and families build meaningful connections and move forward together.
2.18 Mentorship Initiative
Each year, one participant is selected for a year-long mentorship experience focused on entrepreneurship, mindset and leadership. Designed for adults and emerging entrepreneurs, the program provides personalized guidance in building sustainable businesses or nonprofits, paired with accountability and strategic coaching. With transformation at its core, the initiative helps participants cultivate confidence, balance and long-term vision to create meaningful impact in their work and communities.

Grief Gathering Attendee
When I first came here, I felt stressed and anxiety along with still feeling hurt. After I did this group, I feel relieved. Like I could just breathe again and take care of myself.

What inspired me so much was just learning about the other ladies and the journeys we’ve all been on. I’ve been trying to get here for a while. I’m so glad that I finally made it. This has been awesome. I looked forward to coming back again. I learned a lot from Teacher Michelle and the rest of the ladies and l just feel kind of brand new. I’m so glad I came and I’m so inspired to be at more of the grief gatherings.

100% absolutely would recommend this. This was such a therapeutic experience and me personally, it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life and I’ll never forget this and I look forward to coming back again.

I am a therapist and I’ve experienced grief in all the human emotions. I’m a human first always and despite knowing what to do and all the things that I help support others with, it isn’t always the same. Like, I also need to be poured into and so, being a therapist, yes, you may know technically what to do but it doesn’t absolve you of your human experience and you have to support also and have go to your own therapy, go to your own community support spaces like this and so, it doesn’t absolve you. Grief touches everyone no matter what expertise you may have.

I’ve attended the grief sessions and they have impacted my life really great. I was able to take in everything and it made a drastic change in my life.
